Koh Mak

is one of Thailand's secret treasures, situated in the Marine National Park. The island is 16 km and is located in the Gulf of Siam, between Koh Chang and Koh Kood. Together with 50 additional small islands, Koh Mak is an ideal destination for all travellers who desire beautiful and tropical surroundings unspoiled by mass tourism.

To take advantage of Koh Mak's tropical climate, the best time for travelling is between October and May. While Europe is cold and wet, one can escape to Koh Mak with blue skies and temperatures reaching 35 C.

The island is ideal for a relaxing stress-free break; one can spend the time swimming, sunbathing, walking or reading a good book. For the more adventurous traveller, Koh Mak also offers a range of activities including diving, snorkelling, windsurfing and mountain biking. There are opportunities to explore the other islands with organized tours or independently (boat charter).

Koh Mak is the biggest privately owned island in Thailand. Since 1987 the island has slowly developed to accommodate visitors. Today Koh Mak has a variety of resorts to suit a range of tastes, each possessing its own charm and character. Koh Mak has about 700 inhabitans. As well as 10,000 palm trees you can find 1 temple, 13 resorts and 11 bungalows, a few shops, 3 villages of fisherman, 1 primary school, 1 sanitarium, 3 diving schools and a market.

Although the island is still largely undiscovered, it has a very good infrastructure and established access to the mainland. The new airport in Trad is only 30 km from the pier Lame Ngob and the flight time to Bangkok is only 35 minutes. Alternatively you can take the 5 hours bus journey over the newly build highway or travel via ferry or speedboat. The island has recently installed a 24 hour electricity supply, as well as the ability to use wireless-lan.
